Trump Nominates the Wuhan Institute of Virology for Nobel Prize in Chemistry
“They are at the cutting edge of chemistry research and engineering,” Trump said to a packed White House press conference.
In what was a startling revelation, during an impromptu press briefing, President Trump made his nomination public. “Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to very, very strongly nomimate the Wuhan Institute of Virology for the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.” Trump told the packed audience that “the Institute has produced some of the best discoveries in chemistry over the past several months. They are good at what they do. I know they are really good chemists and engineers.”
“What was it that changed your mind Mr. President?” One reporter asked, with a rare show of reverence toward the President. “Well,” Trump replied “you know that I’ve always had such a deep respect for Ms. Shi Zhengli. She spends endless hours researching every angle of the coronavirus. And I’m extremely pleased that we provided the infusion of $10M towards their research.”
That brought the room to their feet! There were cheers of “Trump in 2020” and “Way to Go Donnie!” from the room filled with the best reporters that room has ever seen.
When asked about such an honor and how she felt about the President’s direct mention of her during his press conference, Ms. Zhengli stated through her interpreter, “Who is Donald Trump?” The interviewer wasn’t sure if she was cajoling or not, but it did appear that she was quite busy when the interviewer attempted that interview.
One astute reporter asked when the President received his confidential nomination letter from the Nobel Committee for Chemistry. “We never received such a letter. We just decided to let the world know that we were submitting the Institute for the coveted prize,” Kayleigh McEnany, White House Press Secretary stated. “Well we’re sure the Committee will accept the President’s nomination even though they didn’t send a formal invitation to us for our nomination” she concluded.
“Thank you all for attending this important press conference,” Ms. McEnany said. “The President appreciates your support during this globally challenging period in human history.”
